Welcome to Kahana Wai Retreat! We're so happy to have you staying at our home on Maui. This guide has everything you need for a smooth, relaxing stay — check-in details, house info, our favorite local spots, and tips for getting around. If you have any questions at all during your stay, don't hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Our home is located inside the gated Kahana Wai community. You'll need the gate code below to enter the cul-de-sac.

The house is approximately 50 minutes from Kahului Airport (OGG). The best way to get here is by taxi or rideshare (Uber/Lyft) — it's a straightforward door-to-door option without needing to navigate unfamiliar roads after a long flight.

• Please wash sand off your feet before entering the house.
• We prefer no shoes inside the house.
• No loud noise after 10:00 PM or before 8:00 AM.
• You're welcome to have guests over, but they can't park on the street overnight.
• Please drive 5 mph in the cul-de-sac.

Your 2022 VW Taos is included with your stay and parked in the garage. The keys and garage door clicker are both inside the car. Registration is in the glove box.

Parking: Please park the car in the garage whenever you're home — this keeps it from getting too hot inside. Overnight street parking is not allowed, but overnight parking in the driveway is fine.

Fuel: The car takes regular unleaded gas. Please leave the fuel level the same as when you picked up the car.

Insurance: The driver must have their own auto insurance policy that covers driving other people's cars.

We have a Nespresso machine and an easy-to-use Cuisinart coffee maker for your morning coffee. There's usually some coffee stored in the cabinets above, plus a bean grinder if you'd rather buy whole beans and grind your own.

Pots, pans, and dishes are easy to find in the kitchen. We also have a pantry guests are welcome to use — feel free to use anything in it except what's stored on the very top shelf.

The washer and dryer are located downstairs and are pretty self-explanatory. Detergent pods are in the cabinet to the right of the machines.

The AC is centrally controlled by the wall unit just outside the master bedroom. Please turn off the AC when you leave the house.

Each room also has a ceiling fan controlled by the wall unit and its associated remote. In the living room, the fans don't have remotes — the fan closer to the TV is controlled by a slider on the wall unit next to the television. The fan closer to the kitchen currently doesn't work.

There are two remotes on the living room table — one controls the TV, the other controls the Amazon Fire TV service. We don't have traditional cable; everything runs through Amazon Fire.

We're signed into most major streaming services. Feel free to sign us out and sign into your own accounts if you'd like to use your own subscriptions during your stay.

Trash is stored in the hut to the right of the driveway. Pickup is early Thursday morning — the trash needs to be moved out of the hut and put on the street the night before or early that morning in order to be collected.

There is no recycling service on this route. You're welcome to put everything in the regular trash, or separate recycling into the second bin in the hut — that bin does not need to go out to the street, someone will handle it after you leave. If you do separate recycling, please make sure everything is completely clean (e.g. rinse out plastic bottles) before placing them in that bin.

Beach towels and sunscreen are in the cabinets next to the washer and dryer. We have three sets of snorkel gear and a paddle board stored in the garage, along with straps to tie the board to the roof racks on the car — if you're not familiar with strapping a board down, it's worth a quick YouTube search before you head out.

We don't mind if you get sand in the car. If you have sand on your feet when you get back to the house, come in through the right-side entrance and rinse off using the outdoor shower.

If you're planning to snorkel, check the daily Maui Snorkel Report first — conditions can change quickly depending on wind and surf.

In the master bedroom, the toilet handle needs to be manually pulled back into the off position after use — otherwise it will keep running water.

The master bedroom shower has a lever next to the wall that rotates to switch between the two shower heads.

Some of the sink knobs throughout the house are a bit loose, so please be careful when turning them on and make sure they're fully turned off when you're done.

You're welcome to use any part of the yard during your stay. There are mosquitos around dusk, so it's a good idea to wear repellent — we keep some in the washroom.

The gazebo hasn't been used in a while, so the chairs out there may be a bit dusty. Don't be alarmed if the landscapers come by one morning — that's normal.

Please be sure to shut all gates and doors after you come back inside.

• Make sure all lights, appliances, and the air conditioning are switched off.
• Make sure all trash is put into the large bin in the hut outside.
• Make sure the car is parked in the garage with the key inside, and the garage door is closed.
• Make sure all food that can spoil is removed from the fridge and put in the trash.
• Make sure all doors are locked and the key is back in the lockbox.
• Make sure all dirty towels are dry, then put them in the washroom downstairs.
• Remove all used linens from the beds and put them in the washroom downstairs.

• Maui is very safe, but it's still smart to lock the car and keep valuables out of plain sight.
• Be respectful at the beaches and clean up after yourself.
• Only park where you're allowed to — locals get upset if you park outside designated areas.
• It can rain unexpectedly, so it's worth bringing an umbrella (we have one in the washroom) and a light jacket.
• Check traffic before long drives — there's often construction along the way.
• Make restaurant reservations well in advance, especially during busy season.

• There is a fire extinguisher in the pantry.
• There is a first aid kit in the pantry.
• There's a local urgent care center in Lahaina — easy to find with a quick Google search if needed.
• If something in the house breaks, please call us before doing anything.
